California gives new parents up to ~$14,000 in bonding pay. Most leave time, or money, on the table.
Between State Disability (SDI), Paid Family Leave, and your job-protection rights, California leave is a five-program maze, with a 41-day filing deadline. I'll build your personalized leave timeline, HR email, and step-by-step EDD filing checklist, so you claim everything you're eligible for, on time. Delivered within 24 hours.

Your Leave Plan
SampleCalifornia stacks two things people confuse
SDI
Pay while you recover from childbirth
PFL bonding
Up to 8 weeks of pay. File within 41 days
Job protection
PDL + CFRA, separate from your pay
Up to 8 weeks of bonding pay at 70–90% of wages (max $1,765/week in 2026). Amounts vary and the EDD decides. But the 41-day deadline and unclaimed job-protection weeks are where parents lose out.
Where California parents lose out
It's a five-program maze
SDI, PFL, PDL, CFRA, and FMLA each have different rules, employer thresholds, and clocks. They overlap in ways even HR departments routinely get wrong.
There's a 41-day deadline
Your Paid Family Leave bonding claim must be filed within 41 days of your leave beginning, or you risk losing benefits. The clock doesn't pause for a newborn.
Weeks left on the table
Job protection (CFRA) can extend past your paid weeks, and many parents never claim the employer top-up they're owed, simply because no one tells them to ask.
Your personal leave plan
Everything you need to claim your California leave correctly and on time.
Your leave timeline with key dates
When your SDI ends, when your PFL bonding leave begins, and your 41-day filing deadline, on a clear calendar built around your dates.
A ready-to-send HR email
Fill in the blanks and send. Professional, clear, and written to protect your job-protection rights.
Your EDD filing checklist
The exact forms, in order, with what to submit and when, so nothing gets bounced back, delayed, or filed late.
Your "what to say to HR" script
What HR must confirm in writing, and what you file yourself with EDD, so nothing falls through the cracks.
Delivered within 24 hours by a real person who knows the California leave stack. Not a chatbot.
How it works
Pay & share your dates
Takes 2 minutes at checkout. Your due or birth date, when your leave started, and your employer size.
I build your plan
Within 24 hours, personalized to your exact situation: dates, forms, deadlines, and HR email.
You file with confidence
No missed deadlines. No guesswork. No leaving weeks of pay, or job protection, unclaimed.
"Can't I just figure this out for free?"
You can try. Here's why people pay anyway.
EDD's website explains the rules. It won't tell you your dates, your sequence, or your deadlines.
HR gets the leave stack wrong constantly. It's not their paycheck on the line. It's yours.
Free calculators give you a number, not a step-by-step filing plan you can act on.
$199 to make sense of up to ~$14,000 in benefits and your job protection is the cheapest insurance you'll buy this year.

Questions, answered
Is this legal advice?+
No. LeaveLetter CA is a self-help planning service that organizes California's public EDD rules around your situation. It is not legal advice and not a law firm. For legal questions or a dispute with your employer, talk to an employment attorney.
Doesn't the EDD send the bonding form automatically?+
If you're a birth parent with an active SDI pregnancy claim, the EDD automatically mails you a bonding claim (form DE 2501FP) after your final disability payment. We make sure you complete it correctly and within the 41-day window, line it up with your job-protection rights and HR, and cover what the EDD doesn't: your CFRA weeks, employer top-up, and what to tell HR. If you're the non-birthing parent, your PFL claim is not automatic, so we map that out for you.
How fast will I get it?+
Within 24 hours of receiving your dates, usually much sooner. Already on leave and tight on time? Tell me when you check out and I'll prioritize your plan.
What information do you need from me?+
Just a few things: your due or birth date, when your SDI/pregnancy-disability leave started (if it has), and roughly how many employees your company has. You'll enter them at checkout.
My situation is complicated (S-corp, two employers, self-employed)…+
Tell me up front in the checkout notes. Some cases (self-employed elective coverage, multiple employers) have extra rules. If I can't confidently build your plan, I'll refund you in full, no hassle.
Are you affiliated with the EDD?+
No. LeaveLetter CA is an independent self-help service. We are not a government agency, not affiliated with or endorsed by the California EDD, and not a law firm. Benefit figures are estimates based on your inputs and public EDD data. Verify your actual eligibility and amounts at edd.ca.gov.
Who builds your plan
Hi, I'm the person who'll actually build your plan. No chatbot, no call center. I started LeaveLetter CA because too many California parents lose benefits and job-protected weeks they're entitled to, simply because the system is a maze. I review your situation myself and send you a clear plan you can act on, usually the same day.
